Day One: Six Flags Ohio and Paramount's King's Island

Left New Jersey at 6 AM, arrived Six Flags Ohio (formerly Geauga Lake) about 1:00. Got to use my newly acquired Six Flags Season Pass for the first time outside Great Adventure, so admission was free! Park was fairly crowded on the midways, but lines for rides weren't too bad. I waited the longest for Batman Knight Flight for maybe 15 minutes.

Batman Knight Flight (Rating , 3 out of 4)

Similar but not as good as SFGAdv's Medusa. Rode only once in the front seat, not the smoothest B&M I've been on, but not terrible. The missing zero-g heartline camelback from Medusa really kills this ride in my opinion.

Superman Ultimate Escape (Rating , 3 out of 4)

While basically a one-trick-pony, it's a really good trick. Rode in the back, so I didn't get the most out of the twisting front half, but got a LOT of height and air on the back half. Fast launch, amazing airtime, and that last LIM-powered 'grab' is a heart-stopper. Best LIM thing I've ridden by far (at this point I had not yet ridden Superman at Magic Mountain)

Mind Eraser (Rating , 1 out of 4)

Yet another Vekoma Boomerang.

The Villain (Rating , 3 out of 4)

Oh what a difference a new train would make. This is an amazing woodie with great speed, tons of airtime, terrific laterals and a bunch of surprises that is crippled by nasty Gerstlauer trains. Now I'm not a really big guy (6 foot, 200 pounds), but those restraints leave my legs no room to move. This has a strong possibility of being for me a top-10 ride, but those trains kill it. Instead of getting off and running around to ride it again, I'm rubbing my legs. Let's hope CCI changes back to PTC soon.

Left the park about 4:00 and drove quickly down to Cincinatti to get to King's Island before they closed. I hadn't been to the park since ACE's Spring Conference back in 1994 so there were a few new rides I was hoping to sample. I saw the lift for Son of Beast from I-71, but did not see any trains running on it. Took advantage of ACE member half-price admission, and headed immediately to Son of Beast. On the way over saw a train (really heard it first) running, so I got in line at 7:30. 3 hours later I was next to ride the front seat

Paramount's Kings Island

Son of Beast (Rating , 2 out of 4)

Um...fast. Really really fast. Rough. Really really rough. It was pitch black by the time I got to ride, and I couldn't see much with the tears streaming out my eyes. The lift hill is LOUD and really steep, so steep I feared for the rollbacks if they every were needed. Just as we turned for the first drop the park's fireworks started, making a great backdrop to the ride. Can't tell you much about the layout, just lots of turns and really shaky. I don't think the trains track very well. I half-expected to see track ripping out behind us as we passed it shook so much.
